5 Players We Hope to See at the WSOP 2021

With the 2021 World Series of Poker set to kick off on September 30, fans are already placing their bets on who they want to see take to poker’s biggest stage for the month-long event. From industry greats to up-and-comers, this year’s line-up could be one of the best yet. Continue reading to find out which players we want to see at this year’s tournament.

  1.     Niklas Astedt

Niklas Astedt may only be 30 years old, but he is widely regarded as one of the greatest online poker players of all time. As a result, it comes as a surprise that he is yet to win an online WSOP bracelet. With it only a matter of time before he does, 2021 could be the year. The young Swedish prodigy, who has cashed more than $22 million during his professional career so far, appears to be living the dream and is set to compete in every online game during the duration of the series.

  1.     Daniel Dvoress

Heralded as one the greatest Canadian online poker players of all time, Daniel Dvoress certainly has what it takes to be included in this year’s line-up. As well as reaching new career heights during the World Poker Tour Online Series Main Event and partypoker MILLIONS Main Event, he also won the GGPoker Super MILLION$ event and walked away with a cool $400,000, no mean feat by any stretch of the imagination. By consistently bringing his a-game and knowing exactly how to pressure his opponents, he may well be one of this year’s high rollers.

  1.     Ludovic Geilich

Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, Ludovic Geilich has built an impressive CV in the short time he has been playing professionally. With a live history that could rival any industry great, he has risen to prominence in recent years and has more than earned his place as part of the line-up of one of poker’s most coveted tournaments. He may not have won his first WSOP bracelet as of yet, but he has cashed 16 times during the World Series and walked away with a $460,000 cash prize after winning an Omaha Hold’Em game during the World Championship of Online Poker in 2016.

  1.     Simon Mattsson

Another player flying the flag for Sweden is Simon Mattsson. As one of the most consistent online and live players in the industry today, the 28-year-old is also one of the most stubborn by not cashing once during last year’s WSOP Online Series. With relatively perfect bet-sizing, unbelievable form, and tournament winnings on PokerStars of over $11.5 million, he is on track to win big at this year’s event.

  1.     Phil Hellmuth

Fresh off his highly anticipated win over Daniel Negreanu in two heads-up High Stakes Duel performances, Phil Hellmuth is a force to be reckoned with in the poker community. As a 15-time WSOP bracelet winner, he holds the record for the most bracelets wins by more than five. During this year’s tournament, he is expected to aim for his 16th win. Phil Hellmuth first arrived on the scene over 30 years ago and was quick to make waves in the industry as the youngest ever winner of the WSOP Main Event in 1989 at 24-years-old.

With almost two months until this year’s tournament kicks off on September 30, a number of key players are set to dominate the table. Due to their past success at the annual event or their recent playing performance, Niklas Astedt, Daniel Dvoress, Ludovic Geilich, Simon Mattsson, and Phil Hellmuth are just some of the players we hope to see take to the stage for the 2021 World Series of Poker.
