Excuses Mount in Lead Up to Mayweather vs McGregor

Since it was announced that the fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather would happen, sportsbook odds for Mayweather vs McGregor super fight, which heavily favored Mayweather at first, has gradually been tilting towards McGregor as his fans have started to believe he has a real chance to win the fight.

For most fans everywhere, the time for talking about the fight is over and it’s time for the two men to step inside the ring and prove who the better boxer is.

The lead up to the fight has been very interesting to say the least, which isn’t surprising since the fighters are known as the biggest mouths in combat sports. Mayweather started the trend when he sought to lose his clean cut Pretty Boy Floyd moniker by adopting the brash Money Mayweather moniker.

The change in personality worked wonders for Mayweather, who went from a talented but barely recognizable fighter, to the biggest draw in boxing.

McGregor obviously noticed Mayweather’s tactics worked, and created a similar persona, bragging about how much money he has and how great he is. The move also paid off for McGregor, who has become the top draw in the UFC.

In order to get more people to watch the fight, both fighters have been throwing out different theories on why the other side can win.

Mayweather surprised fans a couple of weeks ago when he said McGregor had the advantage over him in the fight because he is in his 40s and McGregor is still in his prime.

Mayweather said he has lost a step or two and isn’t as fast as he used to be. He added that if he was still in his prime, he would make quick work of McGregor and knock him out. Even though he had previously predicted a knockout victory, he has now opened the door for the fight finishing in the judges’ hands.

McGregor has been ridiculed by fans and boxing experts after they saw videos of his workouts for the fight. They said he didn’t have any head movement and was in poor cardiovascular shape, but McGregor countered by telling them he had been obliterating former champion Paulie Malignaggi in sparring sessions.

Pictures of McGregor landing punches against Malignaggi quickly surfaced, which infuriated the former boxing champion and forced him to quit McGregor’s camp. Malignaggi told reporters the pictures that were circulating didn’t show the full picture.

A few days later, UFC president Dana White released a clip of a sparring session between McGregor and Malignaggi, which showed McGregor having his way with the former champ.

Despite all the excuses and theories both camps have been floating, the bottom line here is that McGregor honestly only has a puncher’s chance to win this fight. Mayweather is 49-0 as a professional and has been boxing since he was a little kid.

No matter how many steps he has lost or his inability to knock McGregor out, he is still the better boxer and shouldn’t have any trouble out pointing McGregor in the fight. McGregor’s only chance to win this is if he charges Mayweather at the start of the fight and catches him with a lucky shot like he did with Jose Aldo.
