Report: Texas to hire Charlie Strong

On Friday, Kevin McGuire wrote a piece about Texas and the issues with their coaching search. Spurned by Saban, Malzahn, Dantonio and others, where would they turn?

Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel, along with multiple other outlets, is reporting that Texas and Charlie Strong have agreed to terms. The article states that Strong has "not formally accepted the job, but he's indicated to Texas officials that he'll be their next coach".

If this report holds true, then I believe the Longhorns have made a great hire. Strong made his reputation at Florida as the defensive coordinator before finally getting his shot at being the "man" when Louisville offered him their heading coaching gig in 2010. After back-to-back 7-6 seasons, Louisville has gone 23-3 over the last two seasons.

Strong definitely has the skills and ability to be successful at Texas. The big questions for me, if he does in fact accept this job, will be who he brings on as his offensive coordinator and how well he can handle the political aspects of the Texas job.
