It has been quite a year and a half for Louisville athletics. The 2012 season saw Louisville capture the Big East crown and smash Florida in the Sugar Bowl, and that was later followed by a men's basketball national championship and great postseason runs by the women's basketball team and baseball team and more. Is Louisville a sleeping giant ready to take storm as they enter the ACC in 2014? The momentum is certainly in favor of the growing university and program. In football though, a coaching change leaves a number of questions to be answered.
The coveted position of University of Texas head football coach was filled by Louisville head coach Charlie Strong and met with mixed reaction. With a position open, Louisville hired Western Kentucky head coach Bobby Petrino, a former Louisville assistant and head coach. Did Louisville rush to make a decision to hire Petrino, or were other options just not in play? Also, what kind of team will he take over during a critical year of transition for the program as a team and as a program in a new conference?
