This is widely called one of the greatest college football games of all-time but due to it happening in 1979, most of you probably have never heard of it or seen it.
The setting was the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas the day after one of the worst ice storms in the history of the city. Oh yeah, Notre Dame’s quarterback, Joe Montana, was sick as a dog.
The Houston Cougars built a 34-12 lead and the game seemed over as Montana was in the locker room being revived with chicken soup, yes chicken soup.
Notre Dame scored on a defensive TD and Montana, who had made his way back out to the field, threw a 2 pt conversion to bring the score to 34-20. Then the Irish drove 60+ yards and Montana scored on a short run and added another 2 pt conversion with four minutes left. Then it came down to the last play of the game….
