Early Saturday morning, Missouri WR Dorial Green-Beckham was arrested on drug charges. The original charges that were filed by the Springfield police are for " felony distribution, delivery, manufacture or production of a controlled substance". According to Dave Matter, of the St Louis Post-Dispatch, the Springfield police department will not comment on the arrest until Monday and have stated that it's an "ongoing investigation".
Green-Beckham was the #1 ranked overall prospect, according to Scout.com, in the 2012 recruiting class. This past season, as a sophomore, DGB broke out as he led the Tigers in receptions (59) and receiving TDs (12).
This is DGB's second arrest since he's been on campus. In 2012, he was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and served a one game suspension.
The SEC is considering a league-wide drug policy but as of now the policies vary greatly from school to school. A post from MrSEC.com from October of 2012 lists Missouri's policy for strike one as "no suspension", strike two as "seven days" and strike three as "dismissal" but these policies change from time to time and also depend on the type of charge if an arrest is made (versus a failed drug test) as well as the type of drug that is being abused. This is a story that is still developing and it could have dire consequences for DGB and the Missouri Tigers.
UPDATE: Fox Sports is now reporting that DGB was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for expired tags and contained "approximately a pound of marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia". All of the three involved have been released without charges pending further investigation.
