Two-time NBA champ LeBron James has “joked” about his football skills, and was a one-time star receiver in high school.
Of course, he realized his future was in basketball and got off the gridiron.
But if you’ve ever wondered what LeBron may look like on a football field, well we give you Florida power forward Patric Young.
He’s not donning any pads in this impromptu workout with UF junior quarterback Tyler Murphy and senior receiver Trey Burton. Remember how big Burton looks on the field? Next to the 6-9 Young he doesn’t look so intimidating any more.
Most of the time Young looks like a basketball player trying to play football, but you can see he has some skills that were likely handed down from his father Robert Young, who played in the defunct USFL.
Young did show some flashes of football potential by utilizing his size and athleticism. And he does a mean TD celebration by easily dunking the ball over the crossbar.
We’ve seen power forwards make the transition to football, so don’t count it out.
There’s future Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, who was probably more football player than hoops star. Still the 6-foot-6 Gonzalez had the skills to play ball at Cal back in the 1990s. He even flirted with playing in the NBA earlier in his career.
You can’t forget former Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, who led Kent State to the Elite 8 in 2002 and didn’t even play football for the Golden Flashes.
Young’s future in the NBA is unclear, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see someone like Bill Belichick take a chance on potential.
