SEC gets new trophy, cause it can

It's SEC week here at Crystal Ball Run and it also happens to be SEC Media Days this week as well, so it's no coincidence that the conference is foremost on our minds. Of course it also helps when the conference goes and does something big. So, on Monday the conference unveiled it's "new" SEC football championship trophy.

After seeing it this was the first thing that came to mind:

Which was quickly followed by a simple question. Isn't this the SEC Championship Trophy?

Then finally, after accepting reality I had to ask myself what kind of message is the SEC trying to send?

We get it SEC, you're rich, you're filthy rich but come on… In this day and age of player safety you chose to keep the one part of your trophy that sends a very bad message. See, you've got an offensive lineman making a low block (perhaps to a very sensitive area of the male anatomy) and the defender apparently about to hit the guy with the ball square in the junk with his helmet.

That's not cool at all SEC, I mean, what's next, you're going to tell me that accidentally hitting a player in the head is going to get you kicked out of the game…. Oh wait, that's actually happening? Crap.

With all the money the SEC has at its disposal you'd think they could've come up with something a little more elegant. Seriously, why not play off the newest trend and just make the trophy a never ending fountain of money – it would send a message of epic proportions – you know, we're rich and it's all about the money baby. At least you'd be honest at that point.

Either that, or why not go fan friendly and make it a push button based trophy like the good ole Billy the Bass, only it would be a never ending loop of the losing team's fans chanting S-E-C. I mean, that's thinking outside of the box and being fan friendly if I've ever heard of it for a championship trophy!

Seriously though, what's up with the players hitting each other in the nether regions on this trophy? If you were going to change some things up why not the really creepy and frankly downright ugly players on the trophy too?
