Nick Saban agrees to contract extension

On Friday evening, it was reported by Kirk Herbstreit and later confirmed by the University of Alabama Athletics Department, that the Alabama Crimson Tide have reached a contract extension with head coach Nick Saban. This ends the long speculation that Nick Saban might be leaving Alabama in favor of the Texas Longhorns.

Nick Saban was already the highest paid coach in college football, and deservedly so based on his results since he's been at Alabama, and this new deal should put him into the stratosphere. Personally, I don't think Saban was going to leave for Texas at any point but super agent Jimmy Sexton let this escalate so he could get his client a bigger payday.

Now that Alabama's future is secured with Saban, where does that leave Texas? Mack Brown appears to be playing the role of Bobby Bowden in this movie and it looks like he is not going to leave without a fight.

At this point, it's still unclear if Brown will make it to 2014 or if he will be shown the door. I think Texas wants to have someone signed, sealed and delivered before they give Mack the boot. The Mack Brown/Texas saga will be one of the hottest stories in the country going forward but it won't be at the expense of Alabama.
