After finishing 11-2 in 2012, the Florida Gators were hoping to build on that season and contend for an SEC Championship this year. The Gators started out 4-1 with an early season loss to the Miami Hurricanes being the only hiccup. Since then, the season has come off the rails with a host of injuries that have contributed greatly to four straight losses.
In his press conference on Monday, Will Muschamp announced that his leading tackler LB Antonio Morrison (27 solo tackles, 56 total tackles) is out for the season with a torn meniscus. Morrison is the tenth Gators player (yes, you read that right…tenth!) that the team has lost for the season.
The Gators can't seem to catch a break and it could end up costing Muschamp his job (which I have previously speculated on). Last week in the loss to Vanderbilt, the fans turned on Muschamp and the team. Athletic Director Jeremy Foley is said to be supporting Muschamp, and to Muschamp's credit he has taken full responsibility for the losses, but in this day and age of "win now" college football this will be an interesting story to watch unfold.
Will Florida give Muschamp the benefit of the doubt due to all of the injuries that he has had to endure? Or will Foley and Florida enter what could be one of the most interesting off-seasons for coaching hires that we've seen in quite a while.
