Missouri went 10-3 in 2010 and had vaulted as high as #6 in the Nation before falling to Nebraska. When Missouri joined the SEC, it was expected that they would be the team that would contend for a SEC Championship quicker than Texas A&M. The Tigers struggled in their SEC debut going 5-7 overall and just 2-6 in the Conference. On Saturday, that might have all changed.
Missouri came into Athens as a seven point underdog but they had to like their chances against a banged-up Georgia team. Missouri jumped out to a 28-10 half-time lead on the strength of two James Franklin TDs fumble return for a score. Missouri held on late despite a furious comeback attempt by Georgia and losing Franklin to a shoulder injury in the final quarter.
What does the future hold for Missouri? They control their own destiny in the SEC East but they must face Florida and South Carolina in back to back weeks. After watching Missouri, they seem to have more weapons this year but I just don't buy them being able to get past two physical line of scrimmage teams like Florida and South Carolina. Missouri will need some breaks if they want to win the East but for now just being in the conversation is a win for the Tigers.
