Rivals Gotham City University, Metropolis State debut new unis this weekend

With all of the buzz surrounding some of this weekend's games, including Florida State vs. Clemson and Stanford vs. UCLA, we somehow let one of the biggest games of the weekend slip through the cracks. Historic rivals Gotham City University and Metropolis State University will clash in a DC match-up and they will have specially designed uniforms for the big game.

OK, so this is not a real football game of course. This weekend filming for a scene in the next addition to the latest Superman movie franchise will be filmed on location at East Los Angeles College’s Weingart Stadium. Scenes featuring the fictional landmark universities of the home of Batman (Gotham City) and Superman (Metropolis) will be captured during halftime of a game between East Los Angeles College vs. Victor Valley College, both being community colleges with football programs.

Under Armour took on the task of putting together football uniforms for the two fictional football programs, and they do a nice job capturing the respective themes of the two cities and their heroes. This image was shared on Batman fan site, Batman News…

If you recall, one of the more memorable scenes from the final chapter of The Dark Knight saga featured Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward running down field in Heinz Field while the field was imploding behind him. This is just a hunch, but I'm supposing the scope of this particular scene will not be as dramatic, given the 20-minute shoot time at a community college.

But getting back to thee uniforms, I am curious how the helmets will end up looking. Will the helmet logos be inspired by the symbols representing Superman and Batman? Also, what are the nicknames for these schools? And why wouldn't Gotham City University break out their alternate kryptonite-colored jerseys for this game? Or is that the color reserved for Coast City College, based in the home of Green Lantern?
