What goes better with college football than a nice cold beer? Not much if you ask me and it appears that a couple of breweries local to Athens, Georgia and Knoxville, Tennessee agree. Athens brewery Terrapin Beer Company (recently named one of the top 25 craft brewers in the US) has collaborated with the Knoxville based Saw Works Brewing Company to create a beer just for this rivalry.
The beer is called 35th Parallel Ale, which is an Amber IPA, in honor of the Georgia/Tennessee border war. With the game being held in Knoxville this season, Saw Works will "host" the beer this season. If you live in the Knoxville area or will be in town for the game then click here for the availability of the beer.
Next season the beer will be brewed in Athens at the larger Terrapin facility, which also cans and bottles their beer, so we can hope that the beer might be a little more accessible in 2014. The plan right now is to brew the beer each year in time for the rivalry game and to keep it in each team's hometown. The two breweries also plan on making a rivalry trophy that will stay with the brewery whose team wins the game.
