After spending the last few days looking over the teams that will comprise the Sun Belt in 2013, it’s safe to say that the league won’t be stealing the NBA’s “Where Amazing Happens” slogan any time soon. The conference as a whole has a bit of “Island of Misfit Football Programs” feel to it, with Texas State joining up just as Western Kentucky gets set to head out, with a bunch of other relatively non-descript schools mixed in the middle.
But just because the league itself is going through a bit of transition, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of talented players who comprise its clubs. Some of the Sun Belt’s stars are former major-program transfers (think David Oku at Arkansas State), others, under the radar recruits who’ve caught the eyes of NFL player personnel directors (Western Kentucky’s Antonio Andrews and Andrew Jackson come to mind), and a few are names that college football fans got to learn last year (like Kolton Browning over at Louisiana-Monroe).
Still, it’s safe to say this league is chalk full of talent.
