2013 Bloguin Heisman Poll: Week Twelve

Would the Heisman race stay status quo after a week in which the top Heisman contenders weren't  tested? Jameis Winston and FSU easily took care of Syracuse, Johnny Manziel took a weekend off and AJ McCarron and the Tide kept on winning but weren't particularly spectacular in victory. Did Marcus Mariota jump back into the race? Did anybody else make an impression on our Heisman voters?

What you'll see each week in the Bloguin Heisman Poll:

* The top total vote getters and quotes from bloggers in support of their candidate

* A list of all players receiving votes

* Poll notes that look at some interesting facts, figures and trends of the poll

* The BHP Roll Call of voters, the links to their respective blogs and twitter accounts

Without any further adieu, the Bloguin Heisman Poll…

1) Jameis Winston (QB- FSU)- 27 points, 45.00% of votes, 8 first place votes

Last Week BHP Ranking: #1

Last Week: 19 of 21 for 277 yds with 2 TD and 0 INT

Season: 185 of 261 for 2,938 yds passing (70.9% completions) with 28 TD and 7 INT, 145 yds rushing, 3 rushing TD

This Week: vs Idaho (1-9)

* On the field, he's simply done everything necessary to lead and win games in a spectacular freshman season. It's a situation that will have to be re-evaluated if the off the field allegations are true, but right now, Winston is the most outstanding football player, with the stats and record to back it up.

– Dale Newton, The Duck Stops Here

* If it wasn't for this new off-the-field issues that seemed to come from nowhere, he would have this trophy locked up by now. 19 for 21, 2 TDs in another walk Saturday? The only thing that can stop him from winning now is the Florida DA.

– Hamilton Riley, Lambeth Field

2) Johnny Manziel (QB- Texas A&M) – 13 points, 21.67% of votes, 1 first place vote

Last Week BHP Ranking: #2

Last Week: bye

Season: 315 attempts/230 completions (73.0%) for 3,313 yards passing with 31 TD and 11 INT, 611 yds rushing and 8 rushing TDs

This Week: at #22 LSU (7-3)

* Johnny Football didn't throw one interception this weekend, nor did he account for any negative yardage. He also didn't have any touchdowns or anything else because Texas A&M had a bye week. But even though Jameis Winston roasted Syracuse this weekend, his level of competition isn't as high and new developments involving Winston's accusations will sway some of the more squeamish Heisman voters. If Manziel beats LSU and Missouri to close out the season, with the defense that A&M has, he deserves this award.

– Jonathan Biles, Crystal Ball Run

3 (tie) Bryce Petty (QB- Baylor) – 7 points, 11.67% of votes

Last Week BHP Ranking: #4

Last Week: 17 of 31 passing for 335 yards and 3 TD with 0 INT

Season: 152 of 233 (65.2%) for 2,992 yards with 24 TD and 1 INT, 127 yards rushing, 10 rushing TD

This Week: at #10 Oklahoma State (9-1)

3 (tie) Marcus Mariota (QB- Oregon) – 7 points, 11.67% of votes

Last Week BHP Ranking: #5 (tie)

Last Week: 19 of 26 passing for 288 yards and 3 TD with 0 INT

Season: 183 of 285 (64.2%) for 2,819 yards with 25 TD and 0 INT, 477 yards rushing, 9 rushing TD

This Week: at Arizona (6-4)

Also receiving votes: AJ McCarron (QB- Alabama) 2 pts; Jordan Lynch (QB- NIU) 2 pts; Miles Jack (RB/LB- UCLA) 1 pt; RB Andre Williams (RB- Boston College) 1 pt

Poll Notes

– Once again this week the only candidate that was listed on every single ballot was, the leader Jameis Winston.

In our 2011 poll, this was the week that RG3 made his move on the Heisman trophy. He jumped from 5th place to 1st place after sticking a dagger in the heart of Bob Stoops and the Oklahoma Sooners.

– In our 2012 poll, after a lackluster performance by Collin Klein, Notre Dame's Manti Te'o grabbed the lead in our poll. This was, of course, pre girlfriend hoax. At this point, Johnny Manziel was third in our poll.

– If you want an early look at a Heisman hopeful, make sure and watch some MACtion on Wednesday night as Jordan Lynch and NIU head to the Glass Bowl in Toledo where the Rockets are always tough.

– The game of the week is #4 Baylor taking on #10 Oklahoma State as Bryce Petty will get to showcase his skills in prime-time on Saturday night on ABC.

– Don't forget about defending winner Johnny Manziel. After a week off to rest his wounds, he gets a shot at LSU in front of the 3:30 crowd on CBS.

– At 7 PM Saturday night, flip over to Fox and see what freshman LB/RB Miles Jack from UCLA is doing. The Bruins face #17 Arizona State. Can Jack continue his recent success since he started going both ways for the Bruins?
