This Week: vs NC State (3-3)
* On a weekend where several Heisman contenders were eliminated with lackluster performances in losses, Winston came through in a big game on the road against #3 Clemson. He's poised, mature and physically gifted. He has the "wow" factor, tremendous leadership skills, and his productivity as a redshirt freshman is simply phenomenal. He's the most talented and exciting quarterback in college football right now, and he keeps getting better.

* I had serious questions about how he would handle the environment at Clemson and he answered them with flying colors. I'm still not entirely on board with the Seminoles being the second best team in the country, but I am convinced Winston may be the best quarterback in the country right now.

* Mariota showed he was human with two turnovers. He also solidified his spot as the Heisman favorite, while helping his team put up another 62 points.

* The Heisman front-runner didn't lose any steam with his victory over Washington State. He has yet to thrown an interception this season and while Jameis Winston may be getting more of the National spotlight, Mariota has been the most consistent quarterback in college football. Oregon still has to play UCLA and Stanford, but Mariota is in prime position to win the Heisman.

Poll Notes
– In our 2011 poll, after week eight Stanford's Andrew Luck continued to lead the pack and increased his lead as he garnered 33.33% of the vote. Trent Richardson placed second and Kellen Moore was third. RG3 was slowly gathering some momentum as he moved into fourth place.
– In our 2012 poll, after week eight West Virginia's Geno Smith started to fade as he fell from first to third. Collin Klein jumped into the leader spot after beating Smith head-to-head and Manti T'eo took second place on the strength of Notre Dame's undefeated start and their strong defense.
– Jameis Winston was the big winner this week as he went head to head with Tajh Boyd and came out the resounding winner. Boyd and Johnny Manziel both lost votes and Winston was the primary recipient.
– This week Marcus Mariota and Oregon will face off with the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins are currently third in the Pac-12 in total defense and second in scoring defense.
– After a huge performance on a big stage, Jameis Winston will now take on a 3-3 NC State Wolfpack team that beat the Seminoles in 2012.
– Can Johnny Manziel get back on track against Vanderbilt?
– On player who will make or break his candidacy this week is Oregon State's Sean Mannion. Mannion leads the Nation in passing yards and TDs and this week his Beavers have a high profile game against the Stanford Cardinal.
