Urban Meyer was criticized for being too lenient at times at Florida. But he’s not messing around in his first season at Ohio State.
Meyer dismissed Storm Klein on Saturday, after the senior linebacker was charged with domestic violence and assault. Klein pleaded not guilty Saturday morning, but Meyer decided not wait to see how things play out.
“The charges filed against Storm Klein violate the core values of the Ohio State Football Program,” Meyer said in a press release Saturday night. “As as result, Storm has been removed from the team. It has been made very clear that this type of charge will result in dismissal. If there are any changes in the charges, we will re-evaluate his status.”
According to a report from Columbus NBC affiliate Channel 4, the arrest and charges stemmed from an incident involving Klein and the alleged victim about the future of their relationship. The plaintiff claims Klein caused scrapes on her forearms and threw her into the front door, causing her head to hit the door. The prosecuter said photo evidence detailed these injuries.
At Florida, Meyer disciplined multiple players who were charged with domestic battery and similar offenses. Running back Chris Rainey was charged with aggravated stalking and missed five games, before the charges were plead down to a misdemeanor and he was allowed to rejoin the team.
Meyer stripped the scholarships of starting tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive tackle Jack Mewhort in June for case involving public urination.
Klein started 10 games and made 45 tackles last season for the Buckeyes, but suffered through an injury-plagued spring and had fallen behind sophomore Curtis Grant on the depth chart.
