No matter how you feel about the current scandal at Penn State and the role that Joe Paterno may have played in it, there’s no doubt that in and around Happy Valley, the coach is still considered a legend. The man who won more games than any coach in college football history will always be an icon, even as the school transitions into their first full season without him on the sideline this fall.
Never was there better proof of that then today, when a bidding war broke out…over the right to attend Paterno’s funeral.
Tickets which went on sale this morning to attend the service were quickly gobbled up (our Kevin McGuire says within seven minutes), only to see a few of them suspiciously end up online. The bidding for those tickets kept going up and up, topping off at over $66,000, before eventually the item was pulled off of eBay.
