After a great start to SEC media days on Tuesday, what did we have to look forward to on Wednesday? John L. Smith. He did not disappoint. The energetic and charismatic Arkansas head coach is enjoying the ride after replacing Bobby Petrino, and he did seem to get a little tired of questions relating to Petrino. Asked if he would like to continue coaching Arkansas beyond the ten months he is currently lined up for, Smith replied “Well, certainly. Do I look stupid?”
Florida head coach Will Muschamp threw more fuel on the fire, as the folks at Leather Helmet Blog put it, with regard to the annual clash between the Gators and Georgia. Muschamp was asked about the game being played in Jacksonville, rather than perhaps alternating with the Georgia Dome. Muschamp’s response?
“Vince Dooley didn’t complain about the game being held there when he was coach.”
We’ll extend the debate here. Should the game remain in Jacksonville? Should it be played in the Georgia Dome? Should the school’s alternate the hosting responsibilities? Personally, I would keep the game right where it is, but I do not have a stake in this the way some of you may. Leave your comments and thought sin the comment section.

The Big East has announced that a settlement with Pittsburgh has been reached to allow the school to leave the conference in 2013. Pittsburgh will pay $7.5 million to the Big East in order to begin play in the ACC next year. Syracuse received a similar deal a few days earlier. The conference also reached an agreement with TCU, in which the school will pay the conference $5 million. TCU never played a single game in the conference, yet was bound to pay an exit fee under the contract the school originally agreed to. Sounds like a pretty solid investment for the Big East.
Miami has dismissed Ray-Ray Armstrong, the top NFL prospect on the roster according to many. Michael Felder reacts to the news, which puts the NFL-hopeful in a tough bind late in the summer, over on Bleacher Report’s Your Best 11.

On Tuesday South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier made some comments about his schedule compared to Georgia’s. Our friends at Leftover Hot Dog say Georgia always plays an easier schedule than the Gamecocks.
You want podcasts? Look no further. Two Crystal Ball Run staffers posted some podcasts yesterday. Tom Perry posted the monthly Eye And Eer Podcast, discussing Joe Paterno, college football playoffs, Syracuse leaving for the ACC and of course, Ohio State and West Virginia football. The crew at College Football Zealots is a hard-working bunch. Yesterday they took to NCAA Football 13 to forecast what the upcoming season will reveal. They also continued with their previews around the nation recently, with Syracuse, Washington State and Marhsall among this week’s previews.

Indianapolis is probably the Big Ten’s best best to see a playoff championship game to be played on their home soil, but according to the Indianapolis Star the city has too many other commitments to attend to right now.
As students camp out by the Joe Paterno statue to protect it from potential vandals, former Georgetown head coach John Thompson still thinks Joe was “a damn good man.” Gary Pinkell agrees.

Watch list season continues with the Davey O’Brien Award watch list. USC wide receiver Marqise Lee was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list a day after it was initially released.
Also, preseason All-Big 12 team is led by Oklahoma and Oklahoma State with five players each. West Virginia quarterback is preseason Offensive Player of the Year and first team QB.
