Yabba Dabo doo, chump! |
So much for all those rumors about Clemson leaving the ACC hurting the Tigers’ recruiting. Coach Dabo Swinney secured a verbal commitment Thursday from defensive end Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s consensus No. 1 recruit.
Coming out Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., Nkemdiche currently holds the top spot in the 2013 player rankings of Rivals.com, 247Sports.com, Scout.com and ESPN, a rare clean sweep. He picked the Tigers from a slew of scholarships offers from some of the country’s top programs, including LSU, Alabama and USC.
At the moment, Swinney and his crew are buidling some momentum on the recruiting trail. Earlier in the day, they received a commitment from 2014 prospect Dylan Sumner-Gardner, a defensive back out of Mesquite, Texas.
Nkedmiche joins Grayson teammates David Kamara, a defensive back, and running back Wayne Gallman in Clemson’s 2013 class.
Of course, making a commitment never means recruiting is over, especially in SEC country. If you think this will keep Nick Saban and the like from blowing this kid’s phone up, you haven’t followed recruiting all that long.
Clemson has Nkemdiche for now, but can the Tigers keep him? Stay tuned.
