More importantly, the win puts Ohio State in prime position to win the Big Ten Leaders division championship, despite the fact it can't play in the championship game. With Wisconsin having two conference losses and a tie breaker over Penn State it will take a lot of help for anyone not on the Buckeyes to take the division title.
Ohio State goes to 9-0 for the first time since the 2007 season when that Buckeyes team went 10-0. Penn State dropped it's 3rd game of the year, but first conference contest of the season on "White Out" night in Happy Valley.
It was once again Braxton Miller who put the Buckeyes on his back for this victory, throwing for 143 yards and rushing for 134 yards in the win. He threw for one touchdown and ran for 2 more and all came in the 2nd half of action. With the 134 yards Miller became the 1st quarterback in Ohio State history to go over the 1,000 yard mark for a season.
That's just another record that he broke and it is likely not the last we'll see him break in his Buckeyes career.
After a scoreless first quarter is was actually Penn State that broke the scoreless drought on a punt block that was recovered by the Nittany Lions to go up 7-0. But, OSU had the answer as they went right down the field on the ensuing drive and got a TD of their own, with Carlos Hyde running it in from a yard out to tie it up at 7-7.
That would be the score at the half, but it would be the Braxton Miller show in the 2nd half.
OSU would take their first lead of the game less than two minutes into the half on an interception return for a touchdown by Ryan Shazier from just 17 yards out.
After Penn State cut the lead to 14-10 that's when the magic of Miller happened as they scored two unanswered Miller rushing touchdowns to go up 28-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
Penn State tried their hardest to make it a game, scoring an early 4th quarter TD, but Miller put them right back in their place, throwing a 72 yard TD bomb to Jake Stoneburner to put the game out of reach once again. The Nittany Lions got another TD late to push it to the final score.
Could we be witnessing the best college football team that never will have a shot at at the national championship? What happens if OSU wins out? Does the AP have the stones to name Ohio State a national champion?
A lot will depend on what happens around this team. Should there only end up being one undefeated team at the end of the year the likelihood of an Ohio State national title could well become some very real talk.
