As expected, the BCS announced Sunday night that college football blue bloods Notre Dame and Alabama will play for the national title in Miami on Jan. 8. The rest of the BCS bowls, however, won’t exactly move the needle.
Whatever follow-up the Orange Bowl has planned for last year’s epic Train halftime concert looks like the highlight of this year’s game. Vegas has set the point spread in the Florida State-Northern Illinois match-up at 15 points, one of the highest lines in BCS bowl history. Nothing about this game suggests the Huskies will be competitive, except for the fact that the Seminoles don’t have the best history of showing up in games of importance.
Oddly enough, the guys out in the desert don’t even see the Sugar Bowl being much closer. Florida is giving two touchdowns to Big East representative Louisville. If the Cardinals’ dynamic quarterback Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t fully recovered from his wrist injury in time for this one, Card Nation may be sucking down hurricanes to dull the pain early in the second half.
Wisconsin-Stanford in the Rose Bowl? Yeah, just think about what a fun New Year’s Day that makes for.
If there’s any hope for these dog games, it might be out in Arizona. Oregon and Kansas State present a compelling contrast in offensive styles, with the Blur going head to head against KSU’s blandly efficient attack.
Chip Kelly and Bill Snyder matching wits? Yeah, that will have to pass for excitement this bowl season.
