Two key players for LSU look as though they will miss this weekend’s Auburn game. LSU student newspaper The Daily Reveille reports that cornerback Tyrann Mathieu (Honey Badger) and running back Spencer Ware will serve a suspension for failing a drug test.
From those aspiring journalists in Baton Rouge;
The suspensions could turn into multiple-game suspensions as well.
Michael Bonnette, LSU’s Associate Athletics Director and Sports Information Director, did not comment on the matter, but neither confirmed nor denied the reports, saying he will speak with LSU coach Les Miles this afternoon.
Initial reaction from most of us at Crystal Ball Run is that these are significant losses but the Tigers should be more than capable of having enough players to take down the defending BCS champions this weekend. But if the suspensions are for more than one game, which TDR suggests is possible, then we’ll see what kind of effect it may have on LSU in the bigger picture.
LSU has a bye week after this weekend’s game to prepare for Alabama. If the Tigers don’t have Mathieu and/or Ware for that game, then we’ll talk.
