2011, A Year of Bad: Louisiana Tech Provides Some Good

When we recall the 2011 college football season that was, unfortunately, it will be remembered for scandalous, monstrous acts that befell the sport – Penn State, Ohio State, Miami. For many fans, 2012 cannot get here soon enough.

Tonight, when TCU and Louisiana Tech take the field in the Poinsettia Bowl, one will win, the other will lose and they both will go home. What will be left behind are the acts of two Louisiana Tech players, senior linebacker Adrien Cole and junior wide receiver Quinton Patton, that should remind us that it’s not all bad in college football these days.

Without any prodding, Cole and Patton gave away the bowl gifts they had rightfully earned to kids in the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both donated their $300 Best Buy gift card to the charity, and Cole also donated his commemorative watch.

What Cole and Patton gave away were material things, but they exemplify something much more enriching than anything they could have purchased at Best Buy. Some lucky kids who may be aching for something to give them a reason to smile this holiday season now have one.

A tip of the hat to these young players, who have given us all a reason to smile
