USC quarterback Matt Barkley had some choice words to describe Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict.
“He’s a dirty player,” Barkley said last week heading in to the game against Arizona State. Barkley faced Burfict in high school allegedly going after his knees in an attempt to injure. “His switch is always on. And it’s not a good switch.”
Barkley’s statements about an opposing player were not taken lightly by the Pac 12, who issued a formal response to the USC quarterback and stated they will reprimand him as a result.
“All of our student-athletes must adhere to the Pac-12’s policies on Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct, which call for our student athletes to treat opponents with respect and create and ensure a collegiate atmosphere in which to conduct competition,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said in a statement released by the Pac 12. “In these circumstances, Mr. Barkley’s comments were a clear violation of Conference rules and he is being appropriately reprimanded.”
We know that Burfict is outspoken when on the field, but he is generally quiet in the media. The college football world would love to know what he has to say about all of this, but for now we’ll just have to deal with that epic photo and come up with some captions of our own.
I’m just guessing that Burfict and Barkley aren’t exactly Facebook friends or following each other on Twitter.
(But that doesn’t mean you can check Crystal Ball Run out on either!)
