Jadeveon Clowney’s big day: #1 pick and signs with Puma

To the surprise of no one, a teary eyed Jadeveon Clowney was selected first in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.

Ever since his first college game in 2011 against East Carolina (where he recorded seven tackles) and his first SEC game against Georgia (where he had two sacks), Clowney was destined to be a top pick in the draft.

Clowney dazzled scouts and the media to the point that there was legitimate debate as to whether he should sit out his junior season rather than risk an injury.

As a junior, Clowney had a mostly lackluster year (recording just three sacks) but that didn’t sway the scouts and the NFL from his raw talent.

The Houston Texans have themselves a play-maker that will make an immediate impact for them. Despite giving up 26.8 ppg, the Texans were 7th in the NFL in yards/game and already have one of the most dynamic defensive linemen in the league in JJ Watt. Clowney also joins fellow Gamecocks DJ Swearinger and Johnathan Joseph on the Texans defense.

In addition to the incredible honor of being the #1 pick in the draft, Clowney also just signed a deal with Puma. Yeah, that’s right….Puma. According to the four letter network, Clowney wanted to be “a part of something different”. Terms were undisclosed but we know that Clowney at least made out with a $2,500 pair of custom snakeskin Puma shoes.

One thing is for sure, a lot of SEC quarterbacks are breathing a bit easier tonight knowing Clowney is out of their league.
