Flashback Friday: Tommie Frazier leads Huskers to second straight National Championship

Coming off of a 13-0 1994 season, a 24-17 win over the Miami Hurricanes in the Orange Bowl and a National Championship, the Nebraska Cornhuskers faced another opponent from Florida as they battled for the 1995 National Championship.

Tommie Frazier led his 11-0 Nebraska Huskers against Steve Spurrier’s undefeated Florida Gators in the Fiesta Bowl.

First let’s take a look at who the “experts” picked to win game…

This one ended up being all Nebraska. The Gators took a 10-6 lead into the second quarter but Nebraska scored five straight times in that quarter (including a safety and an interception return for a TD off of Danny Wuerrfel) to take a 35-10 lead into the locker room.

The Huskers finished with 629 yards of total offense to Florida’s 269. This 75 yard TD run by Tommie Frazier summed up the game as Nebraska won big, 62-24, and won their second consecutive National Championship with Frazier under center.
