Johnny Manziel files for multiple trademarks

Johnny Manziel has recently filed for multiple trademarks. This is nothing new for Manziel and his team as they had previously gone after, and recently secured, the “Johnny Football” moniker. The newest trademarks that have been filed are: The House that Johnny Built, JMAN2, JMAN, JFF, JIIM and Manzllel.

While some might see this as Manziel not being focused on his upcoming NFL future, this is a smart decision by Manziel. Right now, Manziel might be at the peak of his popularity. Nike recently signed him to a multi-year deal so it’s clear that there is demand for his name and for his products.

One of the last players to come out of college this “hot” was Tim Tebow and we know how that ended. By filing for these trademarks, Manziel is putting himself in position to control his marketability more than ever and to profit from it.

Some may see this as an ego based move, but it’s just smart business.

While we are on the subject of Manziel, we would be remiss if we didn’t show you Drake’s song from “Draft Day” that includes a shout out for Manziel (song is NSFW). You have to strike while the iron is hot and that’s just what Johnny Football is doing.
