It’s a pretty safe bet that not many of the readers at Crystal Ball Run have heard of Cartel Brooks.
Heck, you’ve probably never heard of the school he plays for in Ohio — Heidelberg University.
The preseason Division III All-American broke the all-division record for rushing yards in game Saturday as he tallied 465 on 38 carries as the Student Princes rolled Baldwin Wallace University 41-14.
At least one famous Heidelberg alumnus took note of the accomplishment.

At the start of the season, the record was 441 yards by Danté Brown of Marietta College — also a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference — from 1996. But that mark was eclipsed just three weeks ago by another D3 back Octavias McCoy of Western Connecticut with 455 yards.
Brooks’ record performance came in the season finale as Heidelberg finishes 8-2 in arguably the strongest Division III conference in the nation. The Student Princes losses came against 10-0 and No. 1 ranked Mount Union and 9-1 John Carroll, who lost to Mount on Saturday.
Heidelberg athletics had a little fun with Brooks reaching 1,704 yards on the season.
4, 57, 2, 4, 3, 1, 81, 11, 9, 21, 3, 5, 5, 8, 6, 16, 9, 2, 7, 29, 9, 3, 7, 40, 1, -5, 2, 41, 2, 12, -2, 3, 4, 17, 14, 20, 1, 13. That's 465.
