The five biggest stories that CBR is tracking this week:
1. Miami-Florida State gets some new heat.
Rivalries in college football often ebb and flow. They sometimes even ebb to the point of getting washed away. (Nebraska-Colorado used to be a big deal, for crying out loud.)
Not so long ago, no rivalry burned hotter than Florida State-Miami. With rosters loaded down with All-Americans and future NFL superstars, the Hurricanes and Seminoles waged war for the supremacy of Florida and, frequently, even greater stakes on the national level.
Feels like old times as both teams enter Saturday night's primetime (Deion Sanders approves) showdown in Tallahassee sporting undefeated records top 10 rankings. The 'Noles are heavy favorites this time around, but wouldn't it be just like The U to spoil their fun.
2. Bret Bielema keeps making friends.
Bret Bielema has never hesitated to air his grievances with other coaches in public. His latest issue complaint: The Arkansas head coach says his counterpart for Saturday's game, Gus Malzahn, doctored the game film that Auburn supplied to the Razorbacks.
Given how the two teams have played this year, Malzahn could probably send an instructional video of his game plan to Fayetteville and it wouldn't make a difference.
3. Spartans, Wolverines set to tangle.
If Miami-FSU is South Beach sexy, this intrastate rivalry is frigidly frumpy.
As non-glamorous as The Battle for Michigan may be, this tilt carries a lot of weight in the Big Ten. The Wolverines and Spartans actually find themselves right in the thick of the conference chase with just one loss each. The winner here becomes the leader in the Legends division.
4. Missouri tries to bounce back.
It was the Kick Clanged 'Round the SEC. As Missouri kicker Andrew Beggett's chip shot bounced off the goalpost in the Tigers' gut-wrenching loss to South Carolina last week, Mizzou's dream season and hopes for an SEC East title took a serious hit.
Any other time, the Tigers should handle Tennessee easily. This weekend, however, they'll be fighting the kind of hangover that buckets of Pedialyte can't cure.
5. Gators, Bulldogs look to keep hope alive.
Speaking of the SEC East race, Georgia and Florida still have flickering hopes to win the division. The loser of this year's edition of the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party can probably kiss those hopes goodbye.
