Game Day Kickoff: A look at Week 3’s evening games

Any Big Games?

Texas (1-1) vs. No. 25 Ole Miss (2-0), Longhorn Network

There are not a whole lot of great games ot be paying attention to this evening, but for those of who who get a chance to watch this one it may be the most intriguing option. Given the inability to stop the run shown last week by Texas and the fallout that resulted, how do the Longhorns respond against a growing and confident Ole Miss team? The performance tonight could speak volumes about Mack Brown's status as head coach in Austin. A win will ease the tension but another poor showing by the Longhorns and the temperature on the hot seat could near boiling temperature.

Other Ranked Teams in Action

Cal (1-1) vs. No. 4 Ohio State (2-0), FOX

No. 8 LSU (2-0) vs. Kent State (1-1), ESPNU

No. 12 Oklahoma State (2-0) vs. Lamar (1-1), FOX Sports Network (regional)

No. 13 South Carolina (1-1) vs. Vanderbilt (1-1), ESPN

No. 17 Northwestern (2-0) vs. Western Michigan (0-2), Big Ten Network

Purdue (1-1) vs. No. 21 Notre Dame (1-1), ABC

Ohio State heads to Cal but all eys will be on the quarterback situation. Is Braxton Miller available, and if so just how effective will he be? After a week of being drug through the mid, Oklahoma State gets to let loose on Lamar. Expect 56 points by halftime in that one. A rather pivotal game in the SEC East between South Carolina and Vanderbilt shoudl be entertaining. Will Jadeveon Clowney have his first highlight reel performance of 2013? Northwestern looks to sink Western Michigan's boat and improve to 3-0. Wildcats fans are already looking ahead to October 5, when Ohio State comes to Evanston. Notre Dame shoudl get back on the right track against Purdue. The Boilermakers have struggled and lack enough to keep up with the Irish in this one.

Late Night Viewing

Arizona State (1-0) vs. No. 20 Wisconsin (2-0), 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

Utah (2-0) vs. Oregon State (1-1), 10:00 pm ET, FOX Sports 1

There are two games very much worth watching in the Pac 12 for the late night east coast viewers. Wisconsin and Arizona State should be very entertaining as the Sun Devils offense could give Wisconsin's defense some problems. A win for the Badgers would be rather significant. Utah is off to a 2-0 start but getting to 3-0 could be tricky if Oregon State has anything to say about it. The Beavers were upset in week one by FCS Eastern Washington but they have the offense. The question is whether or not their defense will come through. At Utah, it could be tough.

Randy Edsall Bowl

Former UConn head coach Randy Edsall returns to Storrs, Connecticut tonight with Maryland playing a road game at UConn. Edsall did not exactly leave UConn on the most pleasant of terms and he could get the last laught this evening. The Terps are 2-0 and looking to go 3-0 for the first time since 2001. UConn is a complete mess right now so that 3-0 start for Edsall looks to be pretty likely.
