The Oregon Duck’s head was missing (but has been recovered)

In today's most odd news story of the day, Chris Fowler of ESPN tweeted out that the head of the Oregon Ducks' mascot was missing. How did this happen, you ask? Simple: it fell off when the mascot was skydiving on Friday.

The head of a mascot coming off and getting lost during a skydiving incident is something that I don't think we've seen before in any sport, because honestly, what mascot skydives on a non-game day? We've seen numerous mascots jump out of a plane (normally a helicopter) before a game to deliver a game ball in a variety of sports, but straight up skydiving the day before the game is a new one.

Don't fret though, Oregon fans. Fowler later reported that the head had been returned safe and sound. The second ranked Ducks will play the thirteenth ranked Stanford Cardinal on Saturday night, and I don't think this would have ever happened to the Stanford Tree, which appears to be one giant costume as opposed to a body suit and a mask like the Oregon Duck. Ducks fans aren't hoping that the disappearance of the head isn't a harbinger of things to come on Saturday night.
