No. 9 West Virginia 70, No. 25 Baylor 63: A scorekeeper’s and statistician’s worst nightmare

There is no way to possibly begin to breakdown West Virginia’s 70-63 victory over Baylor (West Virginia just scored again). Seriously, what do you even say about this game that included Pro Bowl style defense (Baylor just scored again). So rather than break this one down and take a closer look at any questions you could take from this game (West Virginia scored), let’s take a look (Baylor just scored) at some (WVU scored) of the numbers (Baylor answers) that kept the statistician and official scorekeeper busy Saturday afternoon in Morgantown.

West Virginia and Baylor combined for 1,507 total yards of offense. Entering this weekend’s games, that is more total offensive yards than 58 FBS programs around the country this entire season.

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith tossed eight touchdown passes. That is more touchdown passes than 89 schools have had all season.

Both teams scored 35 points in the first half of the game. 87 FBS schools entered the weekend averaging less than 35 points per game.

Baylor quarterback Nick Florence passed for 581 yards and five touchdowns in the losing effort. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor, Robert Griffin III, had a career high of 479 passing yards (vs. Oklahoma last season).

Six different players accounted for 100 receiving yards, and two of those players had over 300 receiving yards (Stedman Bailey for WVU, Terrance Williams for Baylor).

West Virginia averaged 9.17 yards per play. Baylor averaged 7.60 yards per play.
