Ever since the sanctions handed down by the NCAA just over a week ago there's been a lot of speculation as to who may go and who may 
stay at Penn State, but no one drew as much attention as Junior running back Silas Redd. The junior running back was clearly the star of the offense for the 2012 Nittany Lions, rushing for over 1,200 yards in 2011.
Today he made the rumored move official, announcing his plans to transfer to the Men of Troy and join a USC backfield that doesn't have much in the way of depth. He'll also get the chance to showcase his skills on the biggest stage possible as USC is a preseason favorite to win the national title in some circles.
"We welcome Silas Redd to the Trojan Family," USC athletic director Pat Haden said in a statement. "He is an outstanding student and athlete. When the NCAA presented the option to transfer, Silas and his family put a lot of thought and research into making this decision."
USC is coming off of their own postseason bowl ban and is still feeling the effects of reduced scholarship levels as they are only allowed 75 scholarship players this season.
Redd's decision means USC now has two running backs that rushed for over 1,000 yards last season on their roster. Redd will be fighting for playing time with expected starter Curtis McNeal (1,005 yards in 2011).
In one of the richer ironies in all of this, USC currently is at the max of 75 scholarship players, but is expecting one or two current players to not be academically eligible come fall, and if not, they'll have to pull a scholly from one of the walk-on's that was promised one in 2012. Something just doesn't seem right about that, huh?
But, as for what this move does to Penn State? Well, it leaves a gaping hole in the running back position as Redd's backup was a converted wide receiver in Bill Belton. That will just put more pressure on Matt McGloin to be the man at quarterback in Happy Valley.
