Award watch list week continues with the release of the Rimington Trophy (best center) and Mackey Award (best tight end) watch lists. We took a stab at predicting who will win the individual honors and Michael Felder took a look at how the role of the tight ends has increased at Bleacher Report.
The big news in college football may be the upcoming release of the Freeh report, the internal review of Penn State in response to the Jerry Sandusky situation. The report will be released Thursday at 9 a.m. Eastern on this website, and a press conference will follow at 10 a.m. in Philadelphia. For better or worse, this will be the first time anybody has seen the report. How much this clears things up remains to be seen, but with an estimated 100-150 pages to sort through, there will be plenty of content. Will there be answers?

University of Minnesota regents will vote on whether or not to bring alcohol sales to TCF Stadium, the school’s on-campus football stadium. West Virginia approved the sale of alcohol at Mountaineer Field last year and saw an extra $700,000 generated for the athletic department as a result. Twenty schools offer alcohol at football games.
Now former Georgia running back Isaiah Crowell will continue to play football this fall after enrolling at Alabama State. Crowell was removed from the program following a weapons charge. Matt Hayes of Sporting News suggests that Crowell’s playing days should have been ended, permanently.
Football media days are getting started next week. Here is an early look at who will be on-hand for Big 12 media days, now including TCU’s Gary Patterson and West Virginia’s Dana Holgorsen.
Mountain west Conference commissioner Craig Thompson already sees the four-team playoff expanding to eight teams in the future, perhaps within the current 12-year four-team playoff agreement according to ESPN.com’s Joe Schad.
BYU and Utah’s long-standing rivalry will be placed on a two-year hiatus after the 2013 season. With Utah’s agreement to play Michigan in a home-and-home, Utah athletic director said it would be unfair to his players to schedule BYU in those years because the schedule would be too tough.

Some interesting notes on the growth of college football from the National Football Foundation. Five new programs will take the field this fall and 17 more are prepared to begin play in 2013.

Did Johnson forget that Florida International is the team that left Louisville with a 24-17 victory last September? Did he forget about the performance FIU receiver T.Y. Hilton put together, with a school-record 201 receiving yards and touchdown receptions of 83 and 74 yards? Regardless, Johnson is confident the Cardinals will have a good season in 2012.

One mroe for you this morning. While many players appears to be virtually identical between real-life abilities and their NCAA Football 13 equivalent, EA Sports has to have some differences in the game to avoid potential lawsuits for using player likenesses. It’s a thin line, but apparently Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter is a victim of inaccurate virtual cloning.
