Morning Playbook – Extending your holiday

We hope you enjoyed your Fourth of July, and if you are one of the many making a five-day weekend of the holiday, we hope you enjoyed your Fifth of July as well! As you might expect, it was a relatively quiet day as far as college football news was concerned, but we managed to fill up this morning’s round-up with a few nuggets worth your time.

Perhaps the most notable story to pop up on our nation’s birthday was the unfortunate news that John L. Smith, the interim head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks this year, is facing bankruptcy following a series of poor land investments. According to reports, Smith was honest about his financial strains during the hiring process with Arkansas, and surely a one-year pay raise from his last job should help his own cause.

This week we are focusing on the new playoff era in college football. Before the holiday we took a look at potential host sites for the championship game and how to build the perfect playoff-ready team.

Are you following us on Twitter and Facebook? If not, do so now, as this is the easiest way to know when we have new content on the site ready for you to check out.

By now you have surely seen the Texas A&M video saying hello to their new SEC rivals. It was as bad as advertised, so it should come as no surprise that there is already a Texas A&M – SEC parody video already making the rounds. Also to the surprise of nobody, the video was presented by a Texas Longhorns supporter.

We have been keeping an eye on realignment issues concerning Notre Dame for some time now. This news from a few days ago reveals that former Notre Dame athletic director Gene Corrigan, of Charlottesville, believes any notion of the Irish joining the Big 12 “is considered hogwash.”

Another item leftover from earlier this week, Texas State officially had their moving day and is ready for their next one.

Today we call them student guides. In 1960 the University of Washington called them “Husky honeys.”

There are no words to explain why Oklahoma wide receiver Kenny Stills wore a dress but there is a photo of it for all to bookmark and use for mocking purposes when needed.
