It’s good to see Texas A&M acting like it belongs in the SEC.
Johnny Manziel, in the mix to be the Aggies’ starting quarterback, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with disorderly conduct by fighting, failure to identify and possession of a fake driver’s license, AggieSports.com reports.
An officer on bicycle patrol found Manziel fighting another man at 2 a.m., at an intersection in the entertainment district of College Station. After the fight was stopped, Manziel reportedly gave the police a fake idea, struggled to recall his birth year and ended up in jail, apparently shirtless.
Manziel was a highly-touted recruit, coming out of Kerrville Tivy High School, and originally committed to Oregon. He was competing with Jameill Showers to be A&M’s starter. It’s not the way new Aggie coach Kevin Sumlin wanted to start his tenure.
Earlier in the week, Sumlin announced the suspensions of linebacker Steven Jenkins and safety Howard Matthews.Texas A&M opens Thursday, Aug. 30, at Louisiana Tech, before returning home for its SEC debut against Florida.
