Morning Playbook – Pay for Play debate resurfaces

CBR_Morning_Playbook

Now that the college football playoff has been approved, and widely criticized already, the talk has shifted back to the familiar argument of “pay for play.” Associated Press columnist Tim Dahlberg believes pay for play should be a part of the four-team playoff, and he is certainly not alone in this belief. Our contributor Michael Felder says if everyone makes more money, then stipend should pass on Your Best 11.

The topic of where to play the first college football championship game under the new structure also continues to see a heated conversation brewing. We can now officially add Atlanta to the list of candidates (and this particular college football writer suggests Atlanta should be the favorite).

As you surely know by now, it is ACC Preview Week here at Crystal Ball Run. Yesterday we took a closer look N.C. State’s ability to have a breakout season and whether or not the Wolfpack can make a surprise run to an ACC championship and we were on the hunt to find the next Sammy Watkins. In addition, we also continued our series of story telling the 2012 season with a look at week four.

Staying in the state, three Arkansas Razorbacks have plead not guilty to felony charges. Marquel Wade, Maudrecus Humphrey ad Andrew Peterson are not currently members of the football team according to John L. Smith but their status will be reconsidered after the legal process plays out.

I usually stay away form general recruiting news in this daily post, but here is some information on the Rivals Underclassmen Challenge for those who enjoy digging deeper in to recruiting news and commentary. Also, it might surprise you to know that recruits today feel a winning tradition is overrated.

Former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Stephen Garcia is heading to the CFL, signing with the Montreal Alouettes. May his fate be better than that of former Michigan Wolverine Tate Forcier. Bonne chance monsieur!

Michigan announced a number of non-conference games for the 2014-2016 seasons and confirmed a brief hiatus in their series with Notre Dame from 2018-2019. We are going to dig a little deeper in to these announcements later this morning on the site.

Maryland scored a nice recruiting victory by keeping wide receiver Stefon Diggs in-state with the Class of 2012. National Football Post calls him one of the five ACC players to watch this season. We agree.

Spencer Hall reminds us that no matter how many things change in the sport, we will still watch college football.

Kentucky placed a billboard above a building on Louisville’s main campus, but denies knowing the location of the billboard. I am calling shenanigans. Rivalry.

Pat Forde, Nostradamus?

A look at West Virginia’s (awful) gray uniforms.

Navy has released the second trailer for the 2012 season, and it is awesome.
