Good morning and welcome back to your regularly scheduled program. On behalf of the entire Crystal Ball Run crew here, I hope you had a wonderful, safe Memorial Day weekend. Today we get back to the grind and in doing so we are introducing a new daily feature on the site. Welcome to your Morning Playbook, a daily assortment of recommended links to popular stories and perhaps some that you may have missed. Let’s open up the plabook, shall we?
So, who does have the toughest schedule in college football this upcoming season? None other than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, according to Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com. This should come as no surprise. Take a look at that schedule. Open against Navy (in Ireland), visit Michigan State, host Michigan, play Miami in Chicago, host Stanford, visit Oklahoma and end the season at USC? If Ntore Dame had a national championship caliber team, they certainly have a national championship schedule. Three SEC and three Pac 12 teams made Feldman’s cut. Any surprises?
Speaking of Notre Dame, the Irish have been a hot name in Big 12 circles it seems, and that does not seem to sit well with everybody. Our managing editor, Allen Kenney, touches on the subject of Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds sounding off on his preference for the Big 12 to remain at ten teams unless it means adding Notre Dame.
The latest word on the playoff situation in college football seems to suggest that playoff semifinals will float to the associated bowl sites of higher seeds. This idea would prevent the top two ranked teams form having to “go on the road,” which likely means a Big Ten team ranked No. 1 or No. 2 would “host” a game in Pasadena, California. More breaking down of this potential plan via Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com.
Clemson is closing in on an extension for Dabo Swinney. ESPN reports the deal could be for another six years. That would be a deserved extension considering how Clemson has come on strong in recent years in the ACC, winning the conference last fall. We believe Clemson ended their season after winning the ACC. Nothing else to see, thats for darn sure.
Today is the day we find out if Craig James wins a Senate seat. Uh, good luck with that.
TCU’s second-leading rusher from 2011 will not return to the team this fall. According to TCU 360, Wesley left the program for family reasons. Antoher backup linebacker with potential could also be leaving TCU as well. TCU has lost seven players since February that were supposed to be on the roster this fall.
