It’s the habitual and occasionally nauseating debate in college football: the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and what needs to be introduced to “fix” college football’s postseason system.
Apparently, with uproar, nonsensical or otherwise, comes change.
According to a release from CBS Sports, SEC commissioner Mike Slive indicates in an interview to be aired tonight on the Tony Barnhart Show, that college football’s top leaders will consider substantial changes to the sport’s postseason.
Excerpts from the interview:
On changes to the BCS:
SLIVE – I do think we are going to see changes and I don’t think those changes will be tweaks, that’s the term that we always use. I think there will be changes. We’re going to begin to focus in on all these issues over the next six-to-nine months, with the idea of no-holds barred. We need to take a look at the entire structure and see what kinds of changes need to be made. But I do really think there will be changes.
On plus-one model:
SLIVE – I do think the plus-one has to come back to the table. I’m confident that we’ll have a robust conversation about the plus-one and I certainly will want to make sure that that issue is fully vetted. I think the climate has changed to some degree, so I’m looking forward to that discussion.
It can be argued that producing change [tinkering too much], for the most part, based only in the court of public-opinion could be catastrophic to the greatest sport in all of sports; that, of course, is the opinion of the minority.
On the contrary; the majority may be pleased with what they hear out of Mr. Slive tonight.
